Managing Your Online Reputation

Whether you are one person looking to get hired, a newsworthy individual or a multimillion dollar business, a negative online reputation can hurt where it matters most. Since search engines have become the prime means of finding out about anything and anyone, managing your online reputation is very important.

It can occur inadvertently as in being associated with a negative article about someone else. Sometimes a negative comment in a forum can find its way to the search engines. Or it could be vicious as in being the subject of a web page created solely for your online destruction. Negative information can dominate search engine results about you.

It is important to learn techniques for online reputation management. First, search your name and know what is being said about you. Try talking to whoever entered negative information and rationally ask them to correct the information or take down the page. You can counter negative information by flooding the search engines with positive articles about you or your company. You can also hire reputation management companies to monitor and repair a negative reputation.
